Halifax · Nova Scotia
Family Owned & Operated
More than five decades of hospitality.

The story of Stardust Motel began in 1969, when the original Bedford motel opened with 33 rooms along the Bedford Highway.
Just two years later, in 1971, the property expanded with an additional 19 rooms and a restaurant, establishing the Bedford location as a growing part of the local hospitality community.
The next major chapter began in February 1989, when the motel was purchased by the family that continues to own and operate Stardust Motel Limited today. At just 19 years old, Simos Trihopoylos, together with his family, took on the business and began building the next generation of Stardust Motel.
The family's Nova Scotia story had started years earlier, when Greek immigrants arrived in Halifax through Pier 21 during the 1960s, seeking opportunity and a new place to call home. The values that came with that journey — hard work, determination, hospitality, and family — have continued to shape the business ever since.
In 1993, the family expanded beyond Bedford with the purchase of the Tartan Motel, an existing 11-room motel in Timberlea.
Recognizing the potential of the property and the community, the original Timberlea motel was later demolished and completely rebuilt. In 1999, a new 21-unit motel opened and was renamed as part of the Stardust Motel family.
Today, Bedford and Timberlea offer two distinct guest experiences while sharing the same family ownership, values, and commitment to service.
Stardust Motel's story has never simply been about adding rooms. Throughout the family's ownership, both properties have undergone continuing renovations and improvements.
The motels are never viewed as finished products. Stardust Motel Limited continues to look for ways to improve guest rooms, amenities, property appearance, operations, technology, guest convenience and overall service. The focus is always on what can be done better next.
One of the things Stardust Motel Limited is particularly proud of is its people. Many members of the Stardust team have remained with the company for 20 years or more, becoming an important part of both the business and the close-knit culture around it.
That loyalty, experience and familiarity contribute to the personal style of service that has defined Stardust over the years.
At the same time, Stardust continues to seek out great people who share the company's work ethic, care for guests, and desire to become part of a close and supportive workplace. At Stardust Motel, family culture extends beyond ownership — both long-time and newer employees are encouraged to take pride in the properties and the service provided every day.
Our history is important to us, but Stardust has never been about standing still. Both ownership and staff continue to look for opportunities to improve our properties, our operations, and the experience we provide to each guest.
Owners and employees alike put care into the daily operation of both motels, with the goal of providing the highest quality of service we are able to offer.
From one 33-room motel on the Bedford Highway to two established Halifax-area properties, Stardust Motel remains proudly family owned, proudly rooted in Nova Scotia, and always focused on what comes next.
